Pioneer is pleased to announce the launch of its tree planting partnership with Energy Garden through the Pioneer Foundation.
Through the partnership, Pioneer and Energy Garden will plant 1,000 trees in communal green spaces across London. Energy Garden already maintains a network of community gardens across London, and will provide the experience and expertise needed to support the planting and long-term maintenance of the newly created urban forests or ‘Energy Orchards’.
Beyond the carbon sequestration benefits of the trees planted, the newly created Energy Orchards will transform otherwise neglected spaces into vibrant green spaces and maximise the areas biodiversity for the benefit of local wildlife, plant life, and regional communities. The trees will be planted by Energy Garden staff, Pioneer employees and volunteers from local communities, providing additional social benefits around improved community cohesion, resilience and wellbeing.
Pioneer hopes this initiative will showcase how partnerships between public and private sector organisations can effectively deliver environmental and social benefits to local communities.
Pioneer and Energy Garden marked the official launch of the partnership on 14 October, with the teams from both organisations successfully planting the first orchard at Brondesbury Park Station.
While initially targeting to plant 1,000 trees, Pioneer and Energy Garden hope to scale the project further and plant many more trees in the years to come.
